Rains claim 17 in Pakistan

Islamabad: At least 17 people, including seven children, were killed and several others injured after heavy rains and wind storms hit many cities in Pakistan. According to media sources, cities, including Swat, Peshawar, Nowshera, Malakand, Hang LH, Malakand, Shar ceda and Abetabad were hit by heavy rains and wind storms.

6 rebels die in Nato attacks

Kabul: At Least six Taliban militants were killed in a twin air-attack by ISAF choppers in Zurmat district of Paktiya in Afghanistan, according to officials. A press release by Afghan National Army press office in Gardez says two groups of Taliban militants who were involved in destructive operations came under ISAF air attacks where six militants were killed, according to Afghanistan’s Khaama Press. The statement added that these militants were also suspected to be members of Haqqani Network. The source has also revealed that the joint security forces have taken one vehicle and have damaged a motorcycle and a pick-up vehicle.

Annual budget by mid-June

ISLAMABAD: The federal finance minister is likely to announce the federal budget 2013-2014 on June 14 as officials put forward revenue proposals to the minister this week. Budgetary proposal and a copy of the budget speech of the minister will also be made available to senators.

PPP wins all six seats in Sindh

KARACHI: The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) led by Asif Ali Zardari has won in all six constituencies in the southern province of Sindh, it emerged yesterday. The Director of the office of the Provincial Election Commissioner, Sindh, Mohammad Najeeb, said that the PPP had won in five constituencies in Kashmore and Tharparkar districts where re-polling was carried out on Saturday under strict security. The PPP also won the PS-14 Jacobabad seat after a re-counting of ballots, Najeeb added.
