DOHA: The Youth Company (TYC) is launching the Environment and Sustainability Forum with the theme ‘Building a Sustainable Country’.
Eight high-profile speakers will discuss eco-related issues on World Environment Day tomorrow at HBKU Student Centre. They will present and discuss policy developments to address environmental issues in Qatar.
Recent reports from World Health Organisation have cited Doha as the 12th most polluted city in the world with reference to PM 2.5 concentrations in the air. The forum will bring together government officials, corporations and future generation of youth to discuss innovative solutions to tackle environmental issues.
Speakers include Aurora M Castilla from the Ministry of Environment and Qatar Foundation, Yvette Eechoud, Dutch Ambassador to Qatar, Chief Guest Dr Faleh bin Nasser Al Thani, Under-Secretary for Agricultural Researches and at the Ministry of Environment, and Mohamed Ayoub, Research Programme Manager, Qatar Environment & Energy Research Institute, among others.
“Finding solutions to environmental problems we are facing have become important and we will leave no stone unturned at the forum which is directed at the rate of pollution that fills cities in particular. The outcome of the event will create lasting solutions to these issues,” said the TYC Chairman, Mohamed Farid.
Many organisations have partnered with TYC for the forum, including Engineers Without Borders, Society of Women Engineers, Red Apple Events, W Hotels, Al Abdulla Group Enterprise, iloveqatar.net, Campus magazine, Qatar Today, and BEX.
Following the event, TYC is planning a year filled with activities, including the annual My Qatar youth conference in September, to discuss various issues in Qatar and come up with grass-rooted solutions. Four projects are expected to be generated from the conference.
