ISLAMABAD: Pakistan is on the verge of being classified as a “water scarce” country, the Asian Development Bank has warned.
Pakistan, which has failed to build any major water reservoir in the past 40 years besides facing Indian aggression on the water front, is said to have the storage capacity of only 30-day supply compared to the recommended 1,000 days for countries with similar climate.
The bank’s Outlook 2013 report said Pakistan is one of the most water-stressed countries, not far from being classified as ‘water scarce,’ with less than 1,000 cubic metres per person per year. Internews
