MANAMA: The Bahrain Journalists Association (BJA) has launched a fund to offer its Bahraini and non-Bahraini members financial assistance during contingency.

The Journalists' Takaful Fund will fund BJA members during personal crisis like illness, termination, resignation, marriage as well as loans without interest, a Bahrain News Agency (BNA) report said Thursday.

The BJA has injected an initial sum of BD 3,000 into the BJA Takaful Fund.

The BJA members Bahraini or non-Bahrain are required to pay up a monthly subscription amount of BD 5 per month or BD 60 per annum.

The BJA President Moaness Al Mardi told BNA that the BJA, in addition to the BD 3,000 contribution, will also contribute around 10 to 15 percent of donations it receives from supporters.

BJA Board of Directors member Ehab Ahmed, who supervises the BJA Takaful Fund, said BJA has 400 members and journalists who subscribe the Fund can avail assistance within 21 days from the date of subscribing.

The BJA Takaful Fund will be managed by a seven-member panel three members from the BJA Board of Directors and four elected members. (QNA)
