Doha: The Supreme Council of Health (SCH) has announced the start of construction work for the first hospital for workers in the Industrial Area.

The new hospital will comprise an outpatient clinic, ambulance service, surgery, X-ray and laboratory sections in addition to a health centre and a medical commission unit.

The contractor was handed the site in mid-June and started preparations for construction of the hospital, said SCH.

The hospital is one of three for bachelor workers being built by the Special Engineering Office.

They are expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2016, each with a capacity of 120 beds, which can be expanded to 217 beds.

Hospitals are also planned in Mesaieed Industrial City and Ras Laffan Industrial City.

Work on them is scheduled to start by the end of this month.

Each hospital includes a health centre and a medical commission unit.

The projects are part of SCH’s plan to create a network of hospitals and health centres to provide integrated services for expat workers.
