Doha: Qatar Stars League (QSL) clubs Al Ahli Sports Club and Al Arabi Sports Club in cooperation with the QSL handed over a cheque of QR150, 000 to Qatar Charity for Gaza here yesterday.
The Palestinian ambassador HE Moner Ganem to Qatar received the donation from the QSL.
The two QSL clubs stressed that they take their corporate social responsibility very serious and therefore felt compelled to act. Representing Al Arabi was Al Naemi – Audience and Marketing officer who said that the situation in Gaza is a dire one and as human beings we cannot stand idly by and not support people in need. From Al Ahli – Yousuf Yacoub also spoke about how the club had previously helped the Philippines community who suffered terribly from Typhoon Yolanda over a year ago and that the club is always ready to help support people in need.
Attending the function on behalf of the QSL was Hassan Rabih Al Kuwari Head of Corporate Communication.
Kuwari spoke about the plight of the Palestinians in Gaza and said that it was an honour to be involved in a project to help the beleaguered people. “The QSL decided to double any money that was raised by the clubs and I hope that other companies in Qatar also look to increase their charitable work with communities around the world,” he said.
“At the QSL we always look to help less fortunate people, whether though funding sports projects in hard hit areas of the world or through direct monetary donations,” he added.
In addition Al Arabi Sports Club has decided to donate any further money raised through ticket sales to the people of Gaza for the rest of the season.
