DOHA: Road accidents claimed 15 lives in July this year, down marginally from 16 in June, official figures released yesterday show.
There were 66 major road mishaps in the month while minor accidents totalled 565, data issued by the Ministry of Development Planning and Statistics for July suggest.
Madinat Khalifa area recorded the maximum number of deaths in road accidents, at four, while three deaths occurred in the south of the country, the ministry said.
The number of traffic violations that were reported in the month totaled 124,230, down by a huge 30.4 percent over June.
A total of 8,437 new vehicles were registered in July, down from 9,125 the previous month. Of these, 5,507 were private cars.
More new taxis (227) were registered in the month than June, when the figure was barely 68.
The population in July 1.9 million while in June it was 2.2 million.
The number of births was down in the month to 1,609 compared to 1,833 in June. The total number of births in the Qatari community was 438—230 of them male.
Deaths totaled 183 as against 186 in June. The number of deaths in the Qatari community was 36.
Prices rose marginally in July, by 0.3 percent as compared to June.
