DOHA: The Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MoCI), in cooperation with the General Authority for Competition in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, organised a specialised workshop on the prior implementation of economic concentration transactions, held via videoconference
with the participation of a number of Ministry employees.
The workshop was held as part of the implementation of the memorandum of understanding signed between the two sides, and in support of cooperation and the exchange of expertise and knowledge in the field of competition protection.
Organised by the Competition Protection Department at the Ministry of Commerce and Industry in cooperation with the General Authority for Competition in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the workshop addressed several key topics aimed at strengthening understanding of the risks associated with the prior implementation of economic concentration transactions, and clarifying the distinction between legitimate preparatory measures and prohibited prior implementation, in a manner that supports compliance with competition rules during the period preceding the required regulatory approvals.
The workshop also presented the legal framework governing economic concentration transactions in the State of Qatar, in addition to discussing a number of relevant GCC and international cases and experiences.
The workshop forms part of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry’s efforts to enhance cooperation and technical knowledge exchange with specialised entities, contributing to knowledge dissemination and improving work efficiency in the field of
competition protection.
