Ashghal to investigate massive waterlogging on Dukhan Road

DOHA: Complaints about the massive water-logging on the Dukhan road following the rains last Friday have prompted the Public Works Authority (Ashghal) to set up a special committee to investigate the issue. Ashghal chairman Engineer Nasser Ali Al Mowlawi said that necessary measures will be taken based on the findings of the committee.

Many pictures of the inundated Dukhan road were posted on social networking sites last Friday, immediately after the rains. There were also reports about malfunctioning of some traffic signals in the area.

Al Mowlawi told Al Sharq that Ashghal had received a number of calls from the Traffic Department and Lakhwiya concerning water-logging on the same day.

“Immediately we sent an emergency team led by Hamad Al Tamimi, director of the Road and Sewage Affairs Department at Ashghal to look into the issue,” said Al Mowlawi. The special committee has asked the consultants to submit the design of the road to see if there was anything wrong with the plan, he added.

“We will decide on what to do after the committee submitted its findings,” said the official, asked if the contractors would face action if they are found to be at fault.

The official said Ashghal is working with the Ministry of Municipality and Urban Planning to address possible water-logging on various roads and highways, with more rains are expected during this season.
