LAHORE: Pakistani province Punjab’s Governor Sardar Latif Khosa is once again feeling uneasy with the thorns that have come with the crown as the team of his bureaucrats at the Governor’s Secretariat is not following ‘some’ of his orders.
Like his predecessor Ahmed Nawaz Sukhera, principal secretary to the governor, Tariq Afridi is reportedly not complying with the directions of the governor in different matters.
Sukhera was shown the door following his tussle with the governor over “unnecessary interference of the latter’s advisers in the official matters” about a year ago.
Afridi is reluctant to get some of the orders of the governor implemented, citing ‘legal complications’. In one such case, the governor has snubbed his staff for creating hurdles in implementing his order.
Sources revealed that the case of Dr AR Khalid, former associate professor of the Punjab University’s Mass Communication department, had set off a new controversy. In his application to the governor/chancellor, Dr Khalid said he was qualified to be selected as professor in 2003 but ‘manipulation and manoeuvring’ by some teachers and officials of the varsity denied him elevation.
