Bodies of nine rebels found

ZAMBOANGA CITY: Police forces recovered the bodies of nine rebels of the Misuari-faction Moro national Liberation Front (MNLF) buried in two areas as clearing operations continued in the war-torn district of Zamboanga. Police said they discovered the bodies at Sta Barbara and Sta Catalina, buried in shallow graves. 

181 cops at college recalled

MANILA: The Philippine National Police has recalled 181 more police personnel at the Philippine Public Safety College. Orders were issued by the Directorate for Personnel and Records Management, directing 181 personnel sent to the Police National Training Institute as instructors and training staff to report to the Personnel Holding and Accounting Office for reassignment.

Transfer of 15 officials stayed

MANILA: Customs Commissioner Ruffy Biazon said yesterday that he would follow the 72-hour temporary order issued by a Manila court stopping the transfer of 15 district collectors to the Department of Finance. The Manila Regional Trial Court on Tuesday granted a petition by 15 of 27 collectors ordered transferred to the Customs Policy Research Office. Biazon said the order would not affect operations of customs authorities.

Village chief escapes attack

ILOILO: A village chief cheated death after five people opened fire at him yesterday in Barangay Tabucan, 5km from the town of Calinog. Eustaquio Porras, 42, Chairman of Barangay Lonoy, escaped but his nephew, Mikmay Lemana, 25, was killed. Agencies
