DOHA: A total of QR12m, in addition to 82 expensive cars, are on offer as prizes at the annual Shahaniyya festival for camel racing which kicked off yesterday at Al Tahaddi Square in Shahaniyya.
The six-day racing competitions are being hosted by the Organising Committee for Camel Racing headed by Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim bin Faisal Al Thani.
Original Arab-bred camels from Qatar and the other GCC countries are participating in the festival that comprises 178 rounds of competitions.
The first round of three-kilometre Bakar competition, which consists of 25 races, was held yesterday morning. The top 10 winners in each round were chosen to receive prizes.
