DOHA: The Social Services and Volunteering Club, comprised of 100 students from Qatar Foundation’s Academic Bridge Program (ABP), raised over QR4,000 from all day Bake Sale event organised in its campus on Thursday. The fund was used for Eid gifts for service workers and security personnel employed in the LAS Building.
The Student Services Department and the Social Services and Volunteering Club had organised an assembly to recognise and reward all 40 workers. Moza Al Boainain, Assistant Director for Student Services assisted Security personnel Bibek Chaudhary made presentations to the 14 members of the security staff, while Cleaning Supervisor Romer Reynoso recognised his 26 workers. Each recipient was awarded a certificate of appreciation as well as QR 100 in cash. “This is the first time we have held such an event at the ABP,” said Yasmen Abdulla Al Qadi, who works in the Student Services Department. “I was so happy to be a part of it.”
“These people work quietly in the background every day,” she added, “but it’s good to bring their efforts into the light and recognise all that they do for us.” “The Bake Sale was very successful,” said Al Boainain, “but it is only one of the many activities that club members will undertake this year.”
The ABP club has decided to focus its efforts on helping to raise the QR181,000 to construct a new school in Somalia. The new structure will be called the “Peace School”—a name suggested by a member of the ABP family.
