Doha: Qatar’s Bouchema Kheirddine has brightened his chances of winning the top honours in the Optimist category of the Sail Qatar 2014, the international regatta organised by Qatar Sailing and Rowing Federation.
Yesterday at the end of the penultimate day of the ten-race competition, Kheirddine heads the summit with nine points. Kuwait’s Ali Al Failkawi is in second place with 17 points after the end of seven races.
Three races will be held today, the final day of the competition.
Another Qatari sailor Abdulrahman Ajinah leads the laser4.7 field followed closely by Kuwait’s Suad Alassaf.
Competition is taking place in four other class of Laser RDL, Laser STD, Hobie-16 and 470.
Sailors from 22 countries including hosts Qatar are taking part inluding Portugal, Great Britain, Germany, Turkey, Australia, France, Kuwait, Brazil, Argentina, Serbia, USA, Italy, Ireland, Jordan, Norway, Netherlands, Belgium, Tunisia, Denmark and Egypt.
