Cairo, Egypt: The State of Qatar, represented by Qatar Media Corporation (QMC), participated in the 56th regular session of the Council of Arab Information Ministers, held Wednesday at the Arab League headquarters in Cairo.
The Qatari delegation was headed by Director of the International Cooperation and Agreements Office at QMC Abdullah Ghanem Al Binali Al Muhannadi.
The session discussed draft resolutions on joint Arab information cooperation, developments in the Palestinian cause and the situation in the Palestinian territories occupied since 1967, and ways to strengthen the Palestinian cause in Arab and international information discourse.
Ahead of the session, QMC took part in a consultative meeting of Arab information ministers, proposing that Doha host the Council's Executive Bureau meeting in the first quarter of 2027, alongside the launch of "Doha, Arab Media Capital." A trilateral meeting will be held in late November to hand Qatar the title shield.
In its closing statement, the Council reaffirmed that Palestine remains the central Arab cause and reiterated its support for the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, particularly their right to self-determination and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state on the June 4, 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
The Council stressed the need to protect Palestinian journalists, ensure their safety, and provide support to them and Palestinian information institutions so they can continue their professional work and report developments on the ground.
It called for intensified international efforts to hold those responsible for crimes against journalists accountable and ensure they do not enjoy impunity, warning that continued violations threaten press freedom and encourage further abuses.
It also urged Arab and international institutions to intensify efforts to document Israeli violations and crimes against Palestinian journalists and the Palestinian people, strengthen solidarity campaigns, and exert pressure to ensure accountability.
The Council praised Palestinian information professionals for documenting the aggression and violations against their people, despite hundreds of Palestinian journalists having been killed while carrying out their work.
It also commended Arab information outlets for covering developments in the occupied Palestinian territories and conveying the Palestinian people's suffering to Arab and international public opinion.
The Council called on Arab information outlets to continue raising awareness of the situation in Palestine, amplifying the Palestinian narrative and countering disinformation.
It stressed the need for greater coverage of developments on the ground and at the humanitarian and political levels, highlighting systematic violations, the targeting of journalists and growing international support for the Palestinian cause.
It further emphasized the importance of coordinated Arab information action to support Palestinian efforts in international forums, counter attempts to distort the narrative and history, and preserve the historical and legal status of Jerusalem and its holy sites.
It called for stronger cooperation among Arab information institutions to develop professional, persuasive messaging that reflects the reality in the occupied Palestinian territories and engages international public opinion.
The Council also stressed the need to coordinate Arab initiatives to support Palestinian journalists and information institutions, in cooperation with the Arab League General Secretariat, member states, relevant organizations, professional unions, Arab League missions abroad, councils of ambassadors, and the Arab States Broadcasting Union.
The session followed the 105th regular meeting of the Arab Permanent Committee for Information, held at the Arab League headquarters, where QMC presented a paper on the use of artificial intelligence in Arab information and its impact on human resources.
The meeting addressed the application of AI technologies in the information sector to improve performance and strengthen its role in serving Arab causes.
