DOHA: Yousuf Younus Al Bloushi, a singer and composer based in Doha, says he has created the first Qatari patriotic song in English, to mark the country’s National Day which falls on December 18.

The song, written and composed by Bloushi is available on You Tube.

“When  I  wrote  this  song, my  intention  was  to remind the people of Qatar,  about the good values in Qatari society and introduce them to the  expatriate populations here,” Al Bloushi told this newspaper.

“This is the first song in English, celebrating the glory of Qatar and the Qatari life,” he added. The four-and-a-half minute song is supported by visuals from Qatari traditional life and Doha’s urban landscape. The video is produced by the Doha-based Katana Media and Entertainment.

The song begins with the following lines: “Live young forever; Live young forever; keep getting brighter; Do what you’re doing; We will be with you Qatar”.

It describes the Qatari people as “They are pleasant to meet; They welcome and greet; They help those in need; They are generous indeed, You will hear songs of  joy; In every heart beat.”

The UK-educated Blousi said that this was his first musical venture and he has plans to come out with more compositions in English.

“During my stay in Britain, I had the opportunity to interact with some leading musicians, which helped me a lot in developing my skills as a singer and composer,” he said.

He said that the song had become an instant hit with many citizens and expatriates and he was getting encouraging response  since the video was uploaded on You Tube a couple of days ago. A CD version of the song will be released soon, he added.
