World Cup set to attract 1m fans to Doha

DOHA: Close to a million visitors were expected to descend here to watch the Fifa World Cup in 2022, according to a senior official from the organising committee.
Hassan Al Thawadi, Secretary-General of the ‘Qatar 2022 Supreme Committee’, said no discrimination would be made and all visitors would be warmly welcome.
In an interview with Al Sharq, Al Thawadi said replying to a question that he didn’t see any problem at all in accommodating those visitors.
When suggested by the interviewer that one million visitors would be half of Qatar’s current population, the official hinted that nine years hence when the event is held they would actually be a third (of the population). 
Replying to another question, Al Thawadi said Qatar’s criticism in the context of its 2022 bid win was nothing surprising since every country that has hosted such world events were targeted by critics. The Peninsula
