DOHA: To achieve high standards and uniformity in all areas of works, Qatar Rail has asked every engineering consulting firm to submit all paper works, including drawings in compliance with Qatar National Datum 95 (QND95).
In a statement yesterday, Qatar Rail said it recently held a workshop on the importance of applying QND95, a comprehensive geodetic datum for topographic mapping used as a spatial reference system in Qatar.
QND95 has been defined by Centre for Geographic Information Systems (CGIS), with two main components — vertical and horizontal. It provides ministries and institutions with the coordinate system, consisting of easting, northing and elevation.
The workshop was organised in cooperation with the Ministry of Municipality and Urban Planning, CGIS and the Building Permit Complex Department.
The event came as part of Qatar Rail’s coordination with governmental stakeholders on adopting the highest standards in its projects. It highlighted the importance of dealing with QND95, clarification about the datum specifications, the difference between ‘Level of Zero’ and QND95 and the problematic of using ‘Zero Level’ elevations.
Hassan Ahmed Al Marwani, Senior Technical Interface Manager, Qatar Rail, said: “We are keen to comply with the highest standards in all areas of our works and QND95 is one to which we are committed.
