SUQ attends model UN sessions

Doha: During Bahrain Universities Model United Nations (BUMUN) on November 26-28, students from Stenden University Qatar (SUQ) debated topics such as extremism, violence against women and climate change.
Universities from Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Qatar and the UAE were represented, with a student from SUQ receiving the Best Delegate award.
The 10th annual event was held at Sheraton Hotel under the patronage of Bahrain’s Supreme Council for Youth and Sports Chairperson Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa.
He praised BUMUN and said, “The distinctive interaction of youth and their determination to put forward proposals and views freely with a sense of high responsibility towards diagnosing challenges and brainstorming solutions has achieved success of BUMUN”.
Participants heard guest speakers, including Lin Zheming from the Chinese embassy and Shaikha Deena bint Rashed Al Khalifa, Acting Director, Public & Foreign Relations, Supreme Council for Women.
The SUQ team included Vignesh Venkataraman, Shivi Mishra, Siddharth Bhavnani, Maysaa Al Mulla, Nada Mohamed El Garhy and Coach Ian McKay.
They represented Iraq and North Korea, while their committees were International Atomic Energy Agency and Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC).
Shaikh Nasser presented the team with a participation award received by Al Mulla and Mishra, while Venkataraman received the Diplomacy Award for Best Delegate for his participation in ECOSOC.
