RIYADH: The American pilot and co-pilot of a Cessna airplane were slightly hurt yesterday evening when they crashed short of a runway in the Saudi capital, a civil aviation spokesman said.
The pilot radioed that he needed to make an emergency landing because he had run out of fuel, Khaled Al Khaibari, spokesman for the General Authority of Civil Aviation said.
They had flown from Egypt to King Khalid International Airport where their small plane came down between one and 1.5 miles from the runway, Khaibari said. “The pilot and the co-pilot were lightly injured,” he said.
US teacher stabbed to death in Abu Dhabi
ABU DHABI: An American teacher and mother of twins was stabbed to death in a shopping centre toilet in Abu Dhabi by a suspect in a veil, police said yesterday. It was unclear what the motive was for Monday’s attack in the upmarket Boutik Mall on Al Reem Island, which is popular with expats.
Police said the 37-year-old victim, who worked at a nursery school in Abu Dhabi, was stabbed by a person wearing a black robe, black gloves and a niqab — a Muslim veil that conceals the face except for the eyes. Her 11-year-old twins were taken into police care until their father arrived from abroad. The US embassy confirmed the death, saying it was working with “all appropriate authorities to seek further information.”Agencies
