DOHA: Nepal citizens holding hand written passports should get their passports re-issued and obtain machine readable ones, the embassy said in a statement yesterday.
International Civil Aviation Organisation has set a deadline of November 24, 2015 for globally phasing out of all non-machine readable passports.
The Nepalese embassy has also requested companies to facilitate their employees with hand written passports to get machine readable passports.
The mission accepts applications for machine readable passports between 9am to 1pm, from Sunday to Thursday.
An applicant should submit two copies of duly filled in applications, which could be downloaded from the Embassy’s website (www.nembdoha.com), original Nepalese citizenship certificate and its copy, original current passport and its copy, Qatari ID card copy and QR300 as fees.
A minimum period of two months would require from the date of application to receive the new passport, therefore the Nepalese citizens are advised to apply for a machine readable passport without a delay.
Presently the Nepali embassy has received 400 applications for machine readable passports and till now 63,000 machine readable passport has been distributed from Qatar, said the embassy.
From November 25 onwards, countries may deny visa or entry to any person travelling on a non-machine readable passport.
