DOHA: An expatriate worker was killed and two others injured when part of an excavation site at Hamad Bin Khalifa Medical City collapsed yesterday afternoon, the Public Works Authority (Ashghal) said yesterday.
The accident happened on the project site of the Simulation Centre building when a worker was trapped under soil falling from one side of the excavation site leading to his death. The other two workers were rescued from the mudslide and rushed to the Hamad General Hospital for treatment.
The Ministry of Interior is currently investigating the incident, said a statement issued by Ashghal yesterday.
The Civil Defence, Al Fazaa and ambulance team rushed to the spot and launched a rescue operation. Ashghal officials and the project consultant were also present.
Ashghal said it had stopped work on the site immediately and started an extensive investigation from its side to know the reasons of the accident and identify the responsible parties. If any failure from any parties is detected, they will be held accountable, it added.
All safety procedures implemented on the site by the project contractor and the project consultant will be reviewed and necessary action will be taken, said the statement.
