DOHA: Qatar Charity (QC) has implemented a series of income-generating projects in Gaza.
The projects were part of QC’s efforts to offer support to families without a breadwinner, those with widows and orphans, the unemployed and those who cannot work due to illness.
“We are now able to meet the needs of our children, in terms of food and clothing, without humiliating ourselves by depending on others,” said Falastin Kafarneh, one of the beneficiaries of the project. Thirty-three-year-old Kafarneh became the main breadwinner when her husband fell ill. During the recent conflict the family’s home was demolished, leaving them homeless and without any source of income. QC’s bakery project enabled Falastin to support her family.
“We were able to start a decent life and strengthen our social and economic position after being deprived of the basic necessities of life for years,” she said.
Thirty-five year old Nada Hamad and her family also benefitted from the bakery project. Nada’s husband died, leaving her alone with young sons and no way to support them.
“Through this project I have been able to support my family independently,” Nada said.
“Qatar Charity has saved us from a bleak future, thanks to you my family and I can now live a dignified life,” she added.
QC recently launched the ‘We build Palestine’ campaign, in order to offer support to the development of the Palestinian people inside and outside Palestine, under the slogan “Hand in hand to build Palestine”. The campaign includes the financing and implementation of large development projects, valued at QR197,628,000, for the benefit of an expected 1,147,000 people.
QC’s projects in Palestine cover shelter, education, health, economic empowerment and others, for the benefit of Palestinians in Jerusalem and its environs, the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, in addition to the Palestinian refugees who are in refugee camps in Lebanon and Jordan.
