CAS staff attend lecture on top German varsity

Doha: Faculty and staff from Qatar University‘s College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) had the opportunity of attend a lecture by Dr Carola Richter, Professor of Communications at Free University of Berlin (Germany), who outlined her university’s history and its focus on humanities and social sciences. 

Dr Richter’s visit was organised by the college as part of cooperation on a potential MoU between QU and Free University. 

Following an introduction by CAS Assistant Professor for Humanities Dr Peter Springer, Dr Richter traced the history of her university, pointing to its establishment after the Second World War.

She presented an overview, highlighting its reputation as a leading research institution and its place as an “international network university in the global competition among universities”.

She also pointed out that the university has been successful in Germany’s federal and state Excellence Initiative, thereby receiving additional funding for its institutional future development strategy which is focused on cluster development, international cooperation, and graduate studies.

She further noted that Free University of Berlin works with national, regional, and international partners in academia, business sector, politics, arts and culture, and society. 

CAS Dean Dr Eiman Mustafawi said: “We are pleased to have hosted this visit in which we learned very interesting information about Free University of Berlin. This will be of immense interest to our students who are considering further education studies in humanities and life sciences. It is all part of CAS’ mission to provide its students with wide-ranging opportunities at home and abroad.”   The Peninsula
