Doha: Qtel has brought back its QR1 remittance promotion to selected countries following the success of the Mobile Money and MoneyGram promotion in December. Qtel and MoneyGram have again reduced fees to just QR1 for each transaction to the Philippines, India, Nepal, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. Customers can save up to QR19 when sending money to friends and family back home. The promotion ends on February 12.
Qtel launched Mobile Money in 2011 to allow customers to use their mobile phones to send money home, transfer money locally, top-up Hala accounts or pay Shahry bills. To register, customers have to dial *140# on their mobile phones and follow onscreen instructions to enter their Qatari ID information. Once registered, they can deposit money into their account using any of the 200 Qtel self-service machines.
