London--Kilmarnock manager Allan Johnston will leave the Scottish Premiership club at the end of the season, he revealed on Thursday in comments published by Britain's Press Association.

The 41-year-old former Killie midfielder, who was appointed manager in June 2013, said he had decided to leave after the club sold 18-year-old striker Robbie Muirhead to Dundee United on Monday.

"There is a new chairman coming in and I think it is important that there is a freshness about the club, and it is time to move on anyway," he said.

"Until then I will give 110 percent. It is a good club and it is important we finish the season strongly."

On Muirhead's departure, which occurred on transfer deadline day, Johnston added: "There are a number of things, but that certainly doesn't make your job any easier.

"I never found out Robbie was away until five past 12 (on deadline day). Stuff like that, it is not the way things are done."

Kilmarnock are currently in eighth place in the Scottish top flight, 10 points above the relegation places and 20 points below the European qualifying berths.
