We, the people of Kuwait, love our sister state Qatar. We owe it a favour, especially since it stood by our side after Iraq occupied our lands on August 2, 1990.
Qatar, with its good governance and loyal people, took part in defending Kuwait’s territory and sympathised with its people. It magnanimously hosted Kuwaitis till their country’s liberation and their return to their motherland; it’s something unforgettable. The government of Qatar opened its doors wide to all Kuwaitis.
We were delighted to join Qataris in celebrating Qatar’s National Day on December 18, 2014.
The 35th Gulf summit held in Doha, which hosted the leaders of Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states, demonstrated mutual love, brotherhood and good relations; it was a special occasion. The Kuwaitis honour this friendship and affection. We express our gratitude to the government and people of Qatar.
The summit, attended by GCC leaders, promised a bright future for the region. It was reflected in the speech of the Emir H H Sheikh Tamin bin Hamad Al Thani. It showed brotherhood and solidarity between GCC and that Qatar will foster cooperation and integration in all spheres to benefit the Gulf region.
His speech portrayed brotherhood. We Kuwaitis are delighted because the Doha summit on December 9, 2014 took place just before Qatar’s National Day. There were two auspicious celebrations: the successful Gulf summit in Doha and the National Day. In addition, Qatar won the 22nd Gulf Cup football tournament the same month. We congratulate Qatar on its deserved achievements.
We were also delighted by the speech of the Emir of Kuwait honouring GCC leaders and stressing on human welfare. The Emir said during the summit that the honour the United Nations had bestowed on Kuwait was deemed an honour for all GCC countries, and the summit, which showed solidarity and brotherhood among GCC states, had been a success.
