Qatar & Kazakhstan discuss ways of enhancing cooperation

DOHA: Qatar Chamber Vice-Chairman Mohamed bin Ahmed bin Towar Al Kuwari yesterday met CEO of the Astana’s International Financial Centre (AIFC) Norlan Kusenov at the chamber headquarters.
The meeting discussed ways to enhance co-operation between Qatar and Kazakhstan particularly in banking and investment fields. Askar Shokybayev, Kazakhstan’s ambassador to the State of Qatar, was also present at the meeting.
Al Kuwari said that Qatar and Kazakhstan enjoy distinct relations which are growing  in all fields, noting that the Qatari private sector is welcoming strengthening cooperation ties with Kazakhstani private sector. He referred to the MoU signed between Qatar and Kazakhstan chambers on the sidelines of the visit paid by a 50-businessmen Kazakh delegation to the “Made in Qatar expo” in December 2017.
As per the MoU, businessmen from Qatar and Kazakhstan will visit each other’s countries to establish joint projects .
Bin Twar extended his congratulation on establishing the International Financial Centre in Astana, affirming Qatari businessmen’s trust in the centre to attract Qatari investments to Kazakhstan. On his part, Norlan Kusenov said the International Financial Centre is an ambitious project to cement Kazakhstan’s position as a leading centre for finance.
The AIFC has a number of objectives. It will attract foreign investment, open up the Kazakh banking sector and make it easier for insurance companies and Islamic finance institutions to do business. It will attract world leaders in financial services, which in turn will promote best practices in Kazakhstan. It can be expected that the AIFC will boost Kazakhstan’s economic stability and help the country along the path to becoming a top global economy.
