The Amir His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani held a meeting with HE Friedrich Merz, Chancellor of the friendly Federal Republic of Germany, at the Amiri Diwan today.
Doha, Qatar: The Amir His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani and HE Friedrich Merz, Chancellor of the friendly Federal Republic of Germany, held an official meeting at the Amiri Diwan today, February 5, 2026.
At the beginning of the session, His Highness the Amir welcomed the German Chancellor and the accompanying delegation, hoping that this visit would contribute to developing relations between the two friendly countries and pushing them to broader levels.
For his part, the German Chancellor expressed his thanks and appreciation to His Highness the Amir for the warm welcome, stressing his country’s keenness to strengthen cooperation relations between the two countries in various fields, especially in the economic and investment fields.
During the meeting, ways to support, strengthen and develop the strategic relations between the two friendly countries were discussed, particularly in the economy, investment, trade, energy and military cooperation, in addition to discussing the most prominent regional and international issues and developments.
The session was attended by HE Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani, Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, HE Abdullah bin Mohammed Al-Khulaifi, Head of the Amiri Diwan, and a number of Their Excellencies the Ministers and senior officials.
On the German side, a number of Their Excellencies, senior officials, members of the accompanying official delegation, were present.
His Highness the Amir and the German Chancellor also held a bilateral meeting during which they exchanged views on current developments in the region and the world of common interest.
His Highness Amir hosted a luncheon in honour of His Excellency Friedrich Merz and the accompanying delegation.
The German Chancellor had arrived at the Amiri Diwan earlier, where an official reception ceremony was held for him.
