ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan yesterday said yesterday a larger ‘global conspiracy’ exists behind fuelling sectarian violence in Pakistan. He put responsibility of the security situation on President Asif Ali Zardari and Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) chief Mian Nawaz Sharif. “Zardari does not have the time to pay attention to the situation.” Khan accused the two biggest political parties of making seat adjustments with terrorist organisations for the coming elections and political parties in Sindh of providing safe havens to terror elements involved in sectarian violence. He urged people to vote wisely and not elect parties with armed militant wings.
Winter rains a boon for Islamabad
ISLAMABAD: The unprecedented winter rains this year will have a positive impact on crops and the availability of water. Zafar Hussain, Executive Engineer of Small Dam Organisation’s irrigation department, said small dams which were not filled by the last monsoon rains were now filled to capacity after the heavy winter rains. Eight of the 10 dams in the Potohar region had spilled over during the winter, he said, adding that there will be plenty of water for farmers or any other purpose for the year.
Russia concerned over terror threats
Moscow: Russian expressed concern about the spread of terror threats and drug trafficking from North Afghanistan to neighbouring Central Asian countries which are Moscow’s partners in the Commonwealth of Independent States and Collective Security Treaty Organisation. This came as Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Igor Morgulov met US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs Lynne Tracy and US Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defence David Sedney.
