Mesaieed: Qatar Chemical Company (Q-Chem) in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment (MoE) launched a ‘Tree Week’ campaign at the company’s facilities in Mesaieed Industrial City yesterday.
The initiative supports the “One Million Trees Campaign” announced by the ministry during the COP18 conference. As part of commitment to environmental protection and sustainability, Q-Chem will plant hundreds of trees at the plant site to increase its green belt. It will also contribute toward building a natural windblown sand barrier and increase the reuse of treated water for irrigation. “This is a true win-win situation” said Ahmed Ibrahim Al Emadi, Q-Chem General Manager.
He added: “Our aim in this campaign is to expand the culture of giving and caring for the environment among our Q-Chem family. Each employee has now a name plate attached to the tree he or she planted.”
A similar campaign will be conducted at the company’s joint venture RLOC plant site in Ras Laffan Industrial City tomorrow. Total trees at both locations will be close to 1,000. Q-Chem targets to plant more trees to reach a total of 2,500 by 2014.
