Officials cut a cake to celebrate the milestone achieved across the Middle East, North Africa and Southeast Asia.

DOHA: Ooredoo yesterday announced that its customer base has exceeded 100 million across its footprint in the Middle East, North Africa and Southeast Asia.
Ooredoo achieved the milestone in Q4 2014 according to figures released yesterday, following a year that saw the company grow its customer base in key markets like Qatar, Algeria and Oman and launch operations in new markets like Myanmar.
Sheikh Abdulla bin Mohammed bin Saud Al Thani, Chairman, Ooredoo Group, said: “The Group has always had a clear vision for growth, supported by our prudent investment and development strategy.
“Reaching the milestone reminds us how far we have travelled over the past decade and reinforces the incredible impact Ooredoo services are having around the world.”
Ooredoo operates in markets with an addressable population of more than 700 million and sees strong potential for growth across its footprint.
Myanmar has a population of around 53 million and a relatively low mobile penetration rate of 27 percent, according to the Ministry of Telecommunications and Information Technology.
Within its first month of commercial operations in 2014, Ooredoo reached more than one million customers in the country.
The Group also achieved milestones in many of its core markets last year, growing customer base in Qatar to more than three million and reaching more than 3.5 million 3G customers in Algeria within one year of the launch of 3G services.
Ooredoo is showcasing smart technologies, including smart education, smart city and M2M solutions, at its pavilion at Mobile World Congress this week and highlighting some of its activities that support human growth across its footprint.
“We are confident that Ooredoo’s investment in these solutions and bigger, faster networks across our global footprint will enable the company to sustain its ongoing growth and better serve its customers,” Sheikh Abdulla added.
The Ooredoo Pavilion is at Hall 2 at Mobile World Congress which ends today. The Peninsula
