Doha: Minister of Culture, Arts and Heritage H E Dr Hamad bin Abdulaziz Al Kuwari yesterday met Turkish Minister of Culture and Tourism, Omer Celik, and his delegation.
They discussed arrangements being made for activities of Qatar Turkey 2015 Year of Culture and the proposed schedule for events in both countries.
The meeting also reviewed means of strengthening cultural ties between both sides to live up to the level of the distinctive bilateral political relations.
Following the meeting, the Minister described Qatari-Turkish relations as strong and excellent in all fields and said they enjoy the support of Emir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
“We, as ministers of culture, are working to implement this political will to make cultural ties keep up with political relations,” he said.
The decision on Qatar Turkey 2015 Year of Culture was taken too late, but both sides have a strong and shared will to ensure its success, he said, adding details of the programmes and events will be announced later.
“Today we held a prolonged meeting attended by both parties and discussed aspects of Qatar Turkey 2015 Year of Culture,” Dr Al Kuwari said, adding Celik proposed that the Turkish delegation meet the Qatari side today to study details and finalise programmes for the year.
Dr Al Kuwari said Qatar Turkey 2015 Year of Culture programmes and events will also include other fields, including fine arts, theatre and folklore, among others.
Celik thanked the Minister for hospitality and warm reception accorded to his and his delegation and stressed that Turkey places Qatar in a special position, adding that Qatar was the third leg of visits by the Turkish Prime Minister and Turkish President.
