SRINAGAR--Few hours after the Srinagar-Jammu national highway was thrown open for traffic on Thursday, it was closed again after fresh rainfall and snowfall triggered fresh landslides at several places.
The national highway is closed for traffic for the past three days.
“After a fresh landslide near Ramsoo and in Udhampur, the national highway has been again closed,” said Sanjay Kotwal, SP National Highway. “We had decided to reopen the highway and allow the light vehicles to move from Jammu to Srinagar today,” he said.
He said that after the highway remained open for few hours in which 140 vehicles passed at Udhampur, it was closed again.
IGP Traffic Kashmir Muneer Khan told The Indian Express that bad weather along with the national highway continues to hamper the restoration work
“Beacon is trying to clear the track where the landslides happened. I am hopeful that we would be able to reopen the highway soon,” he said. “ It all depends of the weather conditions.”
