doha: A 20-member delegation from Hokkaido-based small and medium enterprises was hosted at the Japanese Ambassador, Kenjiro Monji’s, residence last Saturday.

Hokkaido is the second largest of Japan’s four main islands. The Hokkaido Fair was organised by the Japanese embassy, in collaboration with the Hokkaido Bureau of Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI).

The event aimed to create awareness of Hokkaido-based products and explore opportunities for marketing in Qatar.

The evening began with the ambassador and METI Director Toshikazu Masuyama addressing guests.

The ambassador spoke about   40 years of diplomatic ties between Qatar and Japan, and how both countries agreed to promote each another beyond trade.

On the sidelines of the event, Masuyama said that the companies were looking to diversify their market opportunities in Qatar beyond the automobile and energy markets.

“We’re looking to expand markets for cosmetics and food products.”

Representatives from visiting companies HABA, Amino Up Chemical co. and Katsuri Inc set up a display area with samples of their products for guests to try.

There was a multitude of cosmetics and natural dietary supplements on display.

Some products like ‘Balance Do no. 7’ a facial cream produced by Katsuri Inc. claimed to improve facial conditions, while Amino Up products were made to assist in weight loss and strengthen immunity.
