“Qatar is active in helping resolve regional conflicts. The consistent efforts made by the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs  H E Ahmad bin Abdullah Al Mahmoud to persuade the non-signatories Armed Movements in Darfur to join the Doha Document for Peace in Darfur (DDPD) is laudable”, he said.

The Sudanese official said he held in Doha ‘positive talks’ with Qatari senior officials to boost bilateral ties, especially at the economic level.

Talks also dealt with the positive developments of the Darfur peace process in light of the new peace agreement between the Sudanese Government and the Justice and Equality Movement due to be signed in Doha tomorrow, in addition to a number of regional and international issues of mutual concern, he said.

Al Mahdi expressed hope that the upcoming Donors’ Conference will transfer Darfur to a new phase of stability and development.
