DOHA: Al Rayyan Municipality has evicted labourers living in 18 houses in various places under the jurisdiction of the municipality. The latest such action is part of implementation of law No.15/2010, which prohibits single workers/labourers living in residential areas.
Hamad Musaffr Al Qahthani, director, Inspection Department, Rayyan Municipality, said the municipality had been receiving a large number of complaints about labourers living in residential areas.
“Before evicting the workers, we conduct investigations and make sure the complaints are genuine”, he said.
Al Qahthani said the municipality had so far evicted labourers from 1,763 accommodations in residential areas, and workers in 830 accommodations were evicted by force.
Al Rayyan Municipality had received 1,830 complaints about labour accommodations in residential areas and found most of them were genuine, and took immediate action, he said.
