WASHINGTON: President Barack Obama yesterday praised Tunisia as the poster child of the Arab Spring, as Washington unveiled half a billion dollars in loan guarantees during the visit of Prime Minister Mehdi Jomaa.
“The good news is that in Tunisia, where it began, we have seen the kind of progress that I think all of us had been hoping for, although it’s been full of challenges,” Obama said.
The Arab Spring began when Tunisian fruit vendor Mohammed Bouazizi set himself alight in 2010.
