Qatar Petroleum (QP), along with Qatargas, RasGas and Nakilat, is taking part in the Gastech 2017 Conference and Exhibition, which formally opened yesterday in the Japanese capital Tokyo.
Held under the theme “Advancing the Role for Gas and LNG in the Global Energy Mix,” Gastech 2017 features a large number of companies in the global gas and LNG industry, and has attracted the participation of thousands of professionals representing the upstream, midstream and downstream sectors of the industry.
The four-day event, which is scheduled to end on Friday, provides a platform for all the participants to learn about the latest technical innovations in the industry and to discuss the major issues currently affecting the international gas and LNG market.
The QP pavilion at the Gastech 2017 exhibition prominently features the corporation’s extensive oil & gas operations as well as the LNG production activities of Qatargas and RasGas. The pavilion also highlights Nakilat’s important function as the transportation link in Qatar’s LNG supply chain, and underscores the valuable contribution of QP’s Industrial Cities for the continued development of many gas-based industries in Qatar.
Sheikh Khalid bin Khalifa Al Thani, Chief Executive Officer of Qatargas, was one of the high-profile panellists during a plenary session focusing on how gas suppliers are adapting to the changing global market.
Other members of the Qatari delegation will also participate with presentations and other contributions in the coming days as part of the technical stream of the Gastech 2017 conference.
The fact that the event is being held in Japan is of particular significance to Qatar, as Japanese companies were Qatar’s founding customers in its pioneering LNG business. In fact, Qatar recently marked the 20th anniversary of its first-ever LNG delivery to Japan, which took place on 10 January 1997. Since then, Qatar has safely and successfully delivered over 2,500 LNG cargoes to Japanese buyers, a testament to Qatar’s long-term commitment in helping meet Japan’s rising energy requirements.
First held in 1972 and now on its 29th edition, the Gastech Conference & Exhibition is considered as the world’s leading gas and LNG event, as it consistently features all the biggest companies and top experts in the industry. The event is held every 18 months in a different international location, and it was hosted once in Doha, Qatar, in October 2002. The next edition of the event will be held in Barcelona, Spain, in September 2018.
