Doha: Continuing with their theme of community outreach through industry engagement, the AFG College with the University of Aberdeen hosted another course in its professional development summer series.

The event entitled ‘Finance for Non-Finance Professionals and Managers’ was aimed at middle and senior management keen to develop a greater understanding of the fundamentals of finance and accounting.

The sessions were led by AFG College Head of Discipline for Accounting Finance, Mohammad Abrar Hussain and Shahadat Hossain, lead for the MSc postgraduate programme. During the session facilitators guided participants through the origin and understanding of key financial statements; profit and loss, statement of financial position, cash flow and statement of shareholder equity.

In the second part of the session participants focused on financial analysis using ratios, an essential set of tools in understanding business performance that then helps contribute to the formulation of strategic decisions within their organisation.

Abrar Hussain, Head of Discipline for Accounting & Finance, said: “I was so surprised with the market demand for the workshop. Both myself and my colleague were really impressed with the quality and aptitude of the participants who were eager to partake in discussion and engage with facilitators and their peers.

“Such workshops really do help in contributing to the knowledge that senior decision makers need when forming strategy within their organisations. This will be the first of many events in developing the local workforce and contributing to the QNV 2030 in developing a knowledge-based society.”

One of the attendees, Ahmad Alsheeb, head of contracts at Qatalum, said: “The training provided very concrete but easy to follow tools and the quality of the content was excellent. Not only was the session was very informative but the training materials were simple, easy to follow and practical as well.”
