Heavy explosion rocks Afghanistan province

KABUL: A heavy explosion rocked southern Kandahar province of Afghanistan on Monday morning, local government officials confirmed the report.

Provincial governor spokesman Jawid Faisal said the incident took place in Ganj area of southern Kandahar city, after an improvised explosive device (IED) went off, according to the Afghan's Khaama Press.

Faisal further added least four people were killed and 27 others were injured.

He said the incident took place after an explosive device planted inside a cart went off, and all the victims of the incident are civilians.

No group has so far claimed responsibility behind the incident.

Local officials blame Taliban group for the incident as Taliban fighters frequently use improvised explosive devices to target Afghan and coalition security force which normally leads to civilians casualties.

Provincial governor spokesman Jawid Faisal said the incident today took place in an area where security forces are rarely moving.

He blamed Taliban group for the incident and said that Taliban militants are looking to create fear among the local residents by committing such crimes against the ordinary civilians. (QNA)
