DOHA: There was so much demand for beauty treatments ahead of Eid Al Adha that most beauty salons in the city and its suburbs were fully booked at least a month in advance.
Nearly all of the parlours had to work overnight on Friday to cope with the rush as many women chose to walk in without a prior appointment and waited for hours on end for their turn.
The parlours make a killing during Eid and this year was no different, with many customers complaining of sudden price hikes, local Arabic daily Al Raya reported.
“We began getting requests for booking at least a month before the festival,” the daily quoted the owner of a beauty salon as saying.
While the bookings are made weeks in advance, women turn up for beauty treatments just a few days before the first day of Eid. Many prefer to get the treatments on the very eve of the festival.
Most prefer to get their hair dyed or cut, or want streaking or shining done, or they go for a glowing skin, manicure and pedicure, or waxing and facials.
The owner of another parlour told the daily that they got at least a hundred requests for appointments on Friday, just a day before Eid. “We were literally inundated with calls for booking,” she said.
An expatriate woman told this newspaper that while she had got an appointment with a beauty parlour in advance, she saw many Asian women just walk in without an appointment.
A woman who gave her name as Lima told Al Raya that she suspected that some parlours were using low-quality products and charging more, taking undue advantage of the Eid rush.
“Additionally, the salons have nearly doubled their tariffs for various treatments,” she said, citing the rates for some services.
Another woman told the daily that the demand for henna application on the eve of Eid Al Adha had spiked so much that some parlours were charging as much as QR500 for it.
