Geneva: The World Food Programme (WFP) strongly condemned the attack in Sudan's South Kordofan that targeted two trucks carrying food aid, which led to the death of its driver, calling for an immediate and unbiased investigation and holding people accountable.
WFP stated on Monday that the investigation is ongoing to gather further information, including the extent of the damage that affected the trucks, advising all parties involved in the aggressive act to respect international law (IL) and humanitarian law commitments, and the protection of civilians and infrastructure, and ensuring the safety of movement without obstacles to people working in the humanitarian field.
The Programme stressed that these incidents shed light on the security situation that is worsening in Sudan and the risks that workers in the rescue field face when providing help to communities in need, affirming its continuous commitment to reach aid safely to millions of people who rely on humanitarian support around the world.
The two trucks of the WFP were on their way from Dilling to Kadugli in South Kordofan in the west of the country and had clear signs of being humanitarian aid vehicles during the attack on Saturday.
