Arab Police Sports Federation meet gets under way

Doha: The Minister of State for Interior Affairs H E Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani inaugurated the 37th General Assembly of the Arab Police Sports Federation (APSF) on Saturday at Marriott Hotel.

The Secretary General of Arab Interior Ministers Council H E Dr Mohammed bin Ali Koman, Chief of General Authority for Youth and Sports in Kuwait Maj Gen (Rtd) Faisal Musaid Al Jazzaf, Head of Kuwait and International Police Sports Federations H E Maj Gen Sheikh Ahmed Al Nawwaf Al Ahmad Al-Saba, Head of Arab and Qatar Police Sports Federations Brig Khaled bin Hamad Al Attiya and a number Ministry of Interior (MoI) department directors attended the opening ceremony. 

The Minister welcomed the attendants to Qatar and wished them a nice stay.  

“I find this as a nice opportunity to meet you and express my deep admiration for the achievements in the field sports by Arab police agencies, which didn’t come from a vacuum, but as a result of collective efforts from you and from all those concerned with the Arab Polices Sports Federation and national sports federations”, the minister said.

The minister added that fitness and sports activity are basic requirements for personnel working in the security field and appreciated efforts by the federation in this regard. He promised all assistance from his part and from the Arab Interior Ministers.  

The minister later honoured Chief of General Authority for Youth and Sports in Kuwait Maj Gen (Rtd) Faisal Musaid Al Jazzaf, Head of Kuwait and International Police Sports Federation H E Maj Gen Sheikh Ahmed Al Nawwaf Al Ahmad Al Sabah, head of Iraqi Olympic Committee Raad Hammoudi Al Dulaimi, the ex-head of the APSF Dr Abdul Qadir Zainal Ridha, General Secretary of the APSF Maj Gen Mohammed Sabeeh Fouda, members of the APSF executive office Brig Saleh Saeed Al Matroushi, Brig Mohammed Al Sanousi Ahmed, International referee from Kuwait Police Sports Federation Saad Kumail Al Fadhli and from the General Secretariat of the APSF Majdi Mohammed Abu Al Majd and Sabhi Mohammed Khaleel. 

The minister also honoured General Secretary of Qatari Olympic Committee Sheikh Saud bin Abdul Rahman Al Thani, Legal Consultant to the minister Dr Abdullah Yousuf Al Mal, Abdullah Sultan Al Noubi on behalf of late Col (Rtd) Mubarak Yaqoub Mubarak Al Ali, Rsrv Brig Abdullah Saad Al Sulaiti, Col (Rsrv) Mohammed Ali Hobesh Al Marri and Maj (Rtd) Salman Al Mas Jumua.  

Maj Gen Sheikh Ahmed Al Nawwaf Al Ahmad Al Sabah presented a memento to the minister. The minister also received mementos on behalf of UAE Police Sports Federation and Morocco Police Sports Federation. 

A Memorandum of Understanding was signed between Arab Police Sports Federation and International Police Sports Federation.

The General Assembly meeting elected Brig Khaled bin Hamad Al Attiya from Qatar as the President of the Federation, Advisor Abdullah Salem bin Nusra Al Amiri from UAE as vice president and Maj Gen Ahmed Rajai Ameen from Egypt as General Secretary.  

Maj Gen Mohammed Abdullah Al Marool (Saudi), Brig Belarabi Saleh Hamdan (Algeria), Col Waleed Ghanem Al Ghanem (Kuwait), Col Sameer Saber Hussain Bakeer (Jordan), Col Mohammed Rajab Dair Al Lail (Libya) and Dr Abdul Haqq Adku (Morocco) were elected as members of the executive body.

The Secretary General of Arab Interior Ministers Council Dr Mohammed bin Ali Koman said sports is one of the priority fields of the Council given the importance of maintaining fitness for policemen. He admired the accomplishments achieved by the APSF during the past four year tenure under the presidency of Brig Khaled Al Attiya and hoped that the federation will reach into new heights in the coming tenure.
