DOHA: Qatar Railways Company (Qatar Rail) will host an Industry Awareness Conference today to introduce companies specialising in architectural and electro-mechanical engineering to the works at the Doha Metro Project.
The conference at La Cigale Hotel - Al Wajba hall from 8.30am to noon, will be attended by more than 200 companies and over 500 people.
It is likely to witness a lively discussion on the occupational and management aspects of the pioneering project with suppliers, consultants and contractors, as well as the companies with the potential to cooperate with in the future.
Presentation will include an explanation and description of the sub-contracting tenders for the project.
The tenders include mechanical and electrical (MEP) subcontracts, architectural finishes subcontracts, including interior fit outs for stations, provision of entrance structures to stations and elevated station shelters.
“The holding of the awareness day is part of Qatar Rail’s proactive strategy to enhance the role and contribution of current contractors to its projects and give them the opportunity to be part of the company’s works,” said Abdulla Abdulaziz Al Subaie, Managing Director and Chairman of the Executive Committee,  Qatar Rail.
The phase one of the project consists of eight major design and build civil contracts with a value of about QR45bn, each of which will require the appointment of large-scale multi-discipline MEP subcontractors, OEMs (original equipment manufacturers) and large-scale high quality architectural work subcontractors.
