kabul: Afghan President Mohamamd Ashraf Ghani made an unannounced visit to Kabul primary jail in a bid to review the condition of the inmates. The Presidential Palace media office said President Ghani visited the detention facility on the eve of Ashura day.
In his meeting with the inmates, President Ghani said the government is obliged to apologise if the convicts are not found guilty by judiciary institutions,.
He also warned the security officials that they will face punishment if they arrested any individual and keep them in custody without proper documents and evidence to prove their involvement in crime.
President is due to meet with a woman who was gang-raped by a group of eight men in northeastern Badakhshan province. According to reports, Ghani will meet the victim and her family in ARG Presidential Palace today, in a move which is believed to be an interference to ensure the perpetrators are in tried for their crime.
Ghani spoke with Jahangeer, the husband of the victim yesterday after the case was broadcasted through media following years of failed attempts to bring the perpetrators to justice, the BBC Farsi reported.Agencies
