​Rocket destroys two homes

SHANGHAI: Two houses in China were damaged by falling pieces of a rocket launched on Monday, prompting calls for an insurance scheme to cover future damage from the country’s ambitious space programme, the China Daily newspaper reported yesterday.
No casualties were reported after the successful launch of China’s first moon rover, Chang’e-3, from the Xichang Satellite Launch Centre in the southwestern province of Sichuan, but debris from the launch hurtled into a village in neighbouring Hunan province.
One person whose home was damaged received 10,800 yuan  as compensation and another received 5,200 yuan, the newspaper said.
Earthquake jolts Mindanao
Philippines:  A 5.5 magnitude earthquake jolted parts of Southern Philippines, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said on yesterday.
In its report, the Phivolcs said the quake traced at 57 kilometers southeast of Mati, Davao Oriental,was recorded at 7:58am.
It was the second earthquake in Mindadano since Sunday night when a magnitude 6 quake shook parts of the region following the movement of the trench beneath the sea of Sultan Kudarat province.
It added that the quake is related to the one that shook Sagbayan town in Bohol.
