Doha: A last-minute equaliser by Ismail Mohammed saved Lekhwiya by the skin of their teeth as they held on to a 2-2 draw against Al Ahli at the Grand Hamad Stadium here yesterday.
Al Ahli drew first blood when Mashael Abdulla scored the game’s first goal in the 12th minute but Mohammed brought Lekhwiya level in the 31st minute.
The match’s third goal came late, in 86th minute, when Dioko Kaluyituka once again put Al Ahli in the lead.
It seemed Al Ahli would manage to hold on for a win but Mohammed fired in his second goal late in extra time to snatch a draw.
After yesterday’s matches, Lekhwiya continue to trail leaders Al Sadd by three points while Al Ahli sit on fifth place.
After their good showing against Al Sadd last week, Al Gharafa continued their good form with a 2-0 victory over Al Kharaitiyat at Al Khor Stadium.
H. Moaed gave Al Gharafa the lead before the break in the 39th minute while H. Yehia doubled their advantage in the 62nd minute.
After yesterday’s match, Al Kharaitiyat languish in 11th spot while Al Gharafa are going strong in third.
The final match of the night ended in a goalless draw at the Saoud bin Abdel Rahman Stadium.
Ninth-placed Al Khor and 12-placed Al Wakrah failed to score during the ninety minutes, although both sides created a number of chances.
The 12th round of the QSL continues today and Al Sailiya will face Al Arabi at the Saoud bin Abdulrahman Stadium in Al Wakrah town at 4pm.
It will be a test for Al Arabi’s new coach Daniel Carreno. “I am very new here and I have only spent a little bit of time with the team. In that short time I saw a group with a lot of talent and latent potential,” he said.
