New Delhi: Passengers of an Indian flight had a narrow escape after their plane veered off the runway after hitting wild boars, a news report said Saturday.
The incident occurred on Friday evening in the central city of Jabalpur, when a herd of 30 to 40 wild boars marched onto the runway around the time a Spicejet flight was flying in from Mumbai.
"The pilot lost control of the aircraft causing it to swerve off the runway," an airline spokesman told the Hindustan Times. "None of the passengers or crew suffered injuries." There were 49 passengers and four crew members on board. Seven boar were killed in the incident that left the aircraft grounded with damage to its landing gear and undercarriage.
"The skilful and experienced hands of the captain helped to avert a major disaster by diverting the aircraft to the left of the runway to moderate the impact of the event," the airline said.
