Doha: Silatech coordinated the Sustainable Development Goal 8 “Decent Work and Economic Growth” activities at the SDG Moment Pavilion, at the FIFA Fan Festival at Al Bidda Park on Saturday.
SDG 8 is one of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) which were established by the United Nations General Assembly in 2015.
The goal seeks to “foster sustained, inclusive and sustainable economic growth, full and productive employment and decent work for all”.
Silatech hosted, In Conversation With, a high-level one to one dialogue with the International Labour Organisation Director General H E Gilbert F Houngbo and Youth Advocate Areej Al Masry.
The discussions are meant to raise awareness on the importance of reinvigorated efforts and collective action towards achieving SDG 8 targets such as, but not limited to promote development-oriented policies that support productive activities, decent job creation, entrepreneurship, creativity, and innovation, and encourage the formalization and growth of micro-small- and medium-sized enterprises, including through access to financial services; achieve full and productive employment and decent work for all women and men, including for young people and persons with disabilities, and equal pay for work of equal value; and substantially reducing the proportion of youth not in employment, education, or training.
Silatech also hosted SilaTalk, a Ted Talk style presentation where Noura Bo-Helaiqa, a Qatari young entrepreneur, Hamad Al Hajri, Snoonu CEO, Mariam Farid, the Qatari Olympic Athlete, and Biplove Choudhary, the UNDP Head of office in Qatar shared their experience including their struggles, aspirations, resilience, and successes, as well as how they managed to create jobs and contribute to sustainable development.
